The art of bidding on Abandoned Storage Units

November 30, 2016

There are a lot of people out there looking to supplement their income by taking on second jobs, finding ways to earn from their hobbies, or simply buying and selling cars or property.

One way to get that additional income, is by buying abandoned storage units, sourcing the valuable items within, and selling them for profit.

This sounds easy, but it is a lot trickier than you might think… Let me explain.

Let`s say you’re the highest bidder of an auction, and you are the lucky winner of one stock standard abandoned storage unit. Your payment has gone through successfully, and the manager has unlocked the storage unit for you.

Step one is to remove ALL of the content as you will have paid a cleaning deposit and you really don’t want to lose it (see www.ibidonstorage.com.au/faq) .  Next you need to have a place to take your new belongings, sort through them, and start selling the valuables within.

E-Bay and Gumtree offer a great outlet to generate the maximum selling price.  Pawn shops and Cash Converters are great for a quick turnaround, but they buy at a lower rate.

Next you need to dump the things that cannot be sold, so you might need to swing past the local refuse centre, and remember, there might be a cost involved.

The moving to-and-fro will also require a ute or trailer, and you’ll need the time to collect everything within 3 days, otherwise you may need to invest in renting a storage unit.

This all sounds like hard work, and yes it might be, but the rewards can be tenfold.  You just don`t know what you`ll find when you go through boxes of old letters and toiletries.  You might just find a gold ring, a PlayStation or two; even a valuable antique.

Today, bidding on abandoned storage units in Australia is a lot easier than you think.  You can simply visit www.ibidonstorage.com.au and place a bid where you feel comfortable, and if you are the highest bidder, then the unit is yours.

In Australia, the storage facility (in most cases) will provide details of what is inside the storage unit (with written descriptions and photos), but use these as a guide only; there might be a lot more hidden in the unopened boxes. So bid with a plan, and don’t spend more than you can afford.

Bidding on abandoned storage units is a fun game, play it right, and you can make it a career.
